DigiSPEC
DigiSPEC allows you to display
visible spectra on your PC.
Simply
connect DigiSPEC to a USB port,
point the spectrometer at a source of light and observe its spectrum
live on the PC display. The spectrometer can be used to demonstrate all
aspects of colour and spectra at all levels of science in Physics,
Astronomy, Chemistry
and Biology. Images are stored as bitmaps or 16 bit PGM files, and
spectra can be exported
into spreadsheets for further analysis.
Multiple digital spectra can be summed to increase signal to noise or
to generate time resolved spectra. Custom software written by
Andy Ray
Developments
named PCSpectra
allows easy display and analysis of saved
wavelength calibrated spectra.
Typical uses of DigiSPEC
Emission spectra
- line spectra of gases such as
Hydrogen,
Helium, Neon, mercury, and the new
energy saving fluorescent lamps.
Flame spectra used in Chemistry such as Na, K, Cu,Sr and modern light
sources such as LEDs and lasers.
Black Body Spectra
-the spectra of hot bodies such
as tungsten lamps and of course the Sun.
Absorption spectra
- the Fraunhoher absorption
lines in the Sun are visible showing the presence of hydrogen and other
elements and
absorption of light by colour filters and biological pigments such as
Chrorophyll and Haemoglobin.
